Week 12
This final week takes a look into a possible future with the designers and people who have accompanied us in the module over the last few weeks.
This time I felt that I could best summarise the lectures, case studies and other materials in a mind map.
Dunne, A. Raby, F., (2013) Speculative Everything: Design, Fiction, and Social Dreaming
The DUNNE & RABY website presents various projects that are open to new ideas or topics that may not be in the public eye. The projects try to imagine other realities and futures or simply ask questions to get the audience thinking.
In one project, volunteers are asked to keep a mini volcano in their living room and find out how they deal with it in their everyday lives. Would they try to destroy it, would it damage their carpet, etc.?
Another project involves designing furniture for people with phobias. In some cases, you almost have to smile at the inventors’ inventions, but they allow new possibilities and realities to be explored for future and present scenarios. Maybe you have to have a certain imagination to change the future, outside the mainstream and with unique ideas.
